Think I got a load for my prc this afternoon that suits me.. I loaded a small ladder with rl23 and 180 bergersplus I loaded 4 rounds in the middle of my ladder to put a little heat in the barrel.. as luck would have it the 4 rounds I loaded to heat the barrel was right in the node.. I shot them at 450 yards same as I shot my ladder and as I was shooting them they just kept stacking on top of each other.. I thought about not even shooting the ladder but I did any way.. after shooting the ladder it showed my node at 64.8 and 65.1 gr. My four rounds to heat the barrel was loaded at 64.8.. :D
Here's the 4 I shot on steel to heat the barrel.. 3 of them are on top of each other and one out maybe 3/4 of a inch.. these chronoed at 3018fps average.

My little cz is going through another transformation.. my lilja 26 inch barrel is about ready to ship and I'm upgrading the scope on it to a 5x25x50 gen 2 pst with the ebr7c retical.. I will be running with the big dogs after these upgrades.. lol

Yesterday afternoon when I was testing my sort I didn't feel like my gun was shooting as good as it normally does so about 9 pm I went out and thought I would check the chamber to see if I might have a carbon ring forming.. sure enough I had a bad one.. so I took the thrro clean stuff to it and removed the carbon ring and just went ahead and cleaned the entire barrel.. knowing I would have time to foul the bore back in with a box of shells before I went to the match.. so I took a box of the 51.6 weight out this morning and shot them. The worst bunch of the sort yesterday.. after about 25 rounds it started printing 5 shot one hole groups.. I thought yep that carbon ring was the culprit.. done had the 51.3 and 51.4 rounds in my bag and loaded everything up.. before I left I thought man I should take a box of the 51.6 with me just in case.. walked out of the house and jumped in the truck and took off.. got to the match and thought dang I didn't grab the 51.6 box.. some as I started shooting my sighters I knew I was in trouble.. neither 51.3 or 51.4 shot very well.. but I did have about 18 rounds of 51.7 in my bag.. I ran the kyl rack twice with them then had to go to the 51.4 weight and the wheels fell off the rest of the match.. lesson learned.. keep a eye on the carbon ring and take the right sort for the condition of the barrel..

You might try to get that vertical out of it with powder charge changes..

Thanks bob..

The wind laid enough to do a little testing of my sort to see which bunch shot the best.. I will be shooting 51.3 and 51.4 tommorow

It's cool to me to see how the sort opens up and goes vertical then closes back up.. alot like powder charges in a center fire

Quote from: Denver Steve on May 04, 2024, 12:19:58 AMDid you ever test out the retumbo in it like you said you where going to try?

I have heard reloder 23 is a great powder for the 7prc as well. Less throat wear than reloder 26 and temp stable.

Denver I did shoot just a handfull of rounds with retumbo.. the speed was a little low with it with pretty much a case full of powder.. I could have got a little more powder in it but the 1000 was giving me good speed and I didn't pursue the retumbo any farther

Worked on a load for this thing quiet a bit today with h1000.. had good speed with it but the precision just wasn't there for me.. the gun didn't react to changes with it like it should and I finally abandoned ship.. switched to rl26 and the gun immediately started acting like it should.. didn't take long and I had my groups down to a inch at 300 yards and I think I'm one more seating change to get it where I want it.. I'm a full grain below max charge in hornadys book and averaging 3015 fps.. that 4 groove 28 inch pipe is walking the dog boys!!
