Reloading / MV Quiz
July 16, 2013, 07:50:02 PM
Two Creedmoors with same muzzle velocity (approx 2885 fps) using very different charges of H4350. Compare:
A-42.7 gr H4350, Hornady brass, Fed 210M primer, 140 gr Berger, 28" custom barrel, fired at 500 feet altitude in 80 degree weather
B-41.6 gr H4350, Hornady brass, Fed 210 primer, 140 gr Berger, 26" Savage LRP barrel, fired at 5000 feet altitude in 80 degree weather
Rifle A has a hotter load, better primer, and 2" longer barrel.  Less dense air at 5000 feet will give less bullet flight resistance, but can it have this much affect on MV? That's an honest question folks. I don't know. Anyone have thoughts about this?

Reloading / Quickload Software

Anyone have it/using it?  Curious of your impression - is it worth the 150 bucks if you're working with just 8-9 firearms?

Reloading / OCW versus "the ladder"
June 18, 2013, 09:42:13 PM
Earlier today I read a post regarding load development using a modified ladder approach.  I was astounded by the number of rounds required. Just recently I developed a load using Newberry's optimum charge weight guidelines for my Savage LRP.  It's awesome and took a total of 42 rounds to develop and confirm.  I'm wondering if I just got lucky or have others on the forum found similar results with this technique?

Competition / bore to sight height
June 18, 2013, 09:26:16 AM
Probably a simple question for you experienced competitors, but I'm a confused newbie!  I'm working with a ballistics calculator for my 6.5 that requires bore to sight height.  My scope is on a 20 MOA rail.  Do I use the standard measurement techniques from the center of the bore to the center of the scope making the measurement in the middle of the scope to account for the 20 MOA cant, or is there a better way?

Thanks in advance for your help  :P"

Reloading / Scale Blues
June 04, 2013, 01:55:49 PM
Well I have two old cheap balance scales (Lyman and Hornady) and one brand new Hornady digital.  The digital is as temperamental as the weather (very good to very bad).  Controlling air flow, static, and warm up time doesn't seem to help when it's having a bad day. So.... its time to look for a very good quality balance scale that will give me consistent measures I can depend on for the long range loads.  My research keeps bringing me back to the RCBS 505 and 1010.  I'm curious if one is more accurate than the other.  I don't need to measure as high as the 1010 is capable of but I like the more solid backing and weight.  I'm not sold on a particular brand - just want the best.  Any of you seasoned reloaders have some thoughts that will help me?

I've been researching action screw torque adjustment to fine tune barrel harmonics. Has anyone worked this out with an LRP?  If so, I'd welcome hearing about your findings.
