Garmin has their new chronograph up for sale on their website. Look interesting, in particular, it doesn't require anything being "triggered" to capture velocities.

Applied Ballistics has a review up, but it's behind their paywall, so I can't re-post that here.

Well folks,

I've got an MDT ACC Remington 700 short action chassis which has been up for sale for some time. No real interest on that, so I'm considering turning that one into a 22LR trainer. The MDT Chassis matches my other two MDT ACC 6.5cm chassis, with the exception of the folding stock option which the 6.5cm rifles both have.

In researching options, so far I've found the following which should work with that MDT ACC 700 SA chassis, but I don't really know anything about any of these, and am just wondering if the group had any experience with these 22LR options, or possibly others?

Bergara B-14R. Seems fairly solid, and is the least expensive of option I've seen so far. Alamo Precision rifles sells these with the 18" steel barrel and one AICS magazine set up for 22LR for $699.

Zermatt Arms RIMX Action, RH 22LR w/30 MPA rail, plus a Proof Research 20" barrel, and one VuDoo gunworks AICS magazine comes in at $1,810. (from Mile High Shooting)

VuDoo Gunworks V22 Three 60 action, depending on barrel options and rail options, ceracote color and one one AICS magazine comes in around $2050. VuDoo has the most options, since it's essentially a custom order and I can get up to a 60 MOA rail on the action. Delivery is 4-6 weeks.

I'd still need to buy another trigger (TriggerTech Diamond to match my other rifles), plus rings and scope etc.

Anyway, I thought I'd throw this out for comments or suggestions.

Reloading / Forster Custom Polished Seating Stems
August 20, 2023, 07:38:36 AM
Just curious if any of you have used the Forster "Custom Polished Seating Stems" service?

I'm looking at that to perhaps get a better seating fit to the ogive for my Berger 153.5 LRHT projectiles. Not sure if it will make any massive difference, but considering it anyway.

All,

I've been out of commission (shooting-wise) for nearly a year due to several medical surgeries, which I'm still recovering from. As a result, I've not been using my Kestrel for some time and have grown rusty.

I ran across the Kestrel virtual classes, and yesterday attended their basic one as a refresher. All in all it was decent, with a number of tips that I'd not run across previously. Kestrel will be running the advanced version of that class in a couple of weeks, as well as others related to the Kestrel products. All are free but require advance sign-up, and the classes are held via "Zoom".  Link to classes below.

Reloading / New Rifle & New Brass
January 12, 2023, 09:11:09 AM
Ok everyone, I'm kind of looking for a "what would you do" in this situation.

Brief background, I picked up a new custom 6.5cm rifle back in October of 2021, and only have about 40 factory rounds down it for initial sighting in, all due to some complicated family and personal health issues. Anyway, I'm hoping to get back to building up loads for it and have enough brass to use for the life of the barrel.

Common wisdom seems to say that you don't worry about final load development until you've got a couple of hundred rounds or so down the tube. In addition, load development using new brass seems to again suggest that you use fireformed brass to use for your final load development.

So, how much new brass would you use to start load development with, and why? 200 cases, 300 cases, 400 cases or? FWIW, this is all Lapua LRP stock that I've got in hand.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Reloading / Area 419 - New Sizing Die
December 15, 2022, 06:25:13 AM
Area 419 has announced their new sizing die. Looks interesting, but I'm not sure I'd swap our my Forster dies for it. Pre-Order only at this point and pricey. See Blurb below from their Instagram link. Only works with their 419 Press at this point. Doesn't look like it will work with my Forster press and the standard 7/8" dies that are standard for most other presses. If was flush with a spare 2 grand, I could get the new sizing die, with the hybrid turret and the 419 press. The video does mention a new "S" series die for the 7/8" presses that we all have currently.

Video Link:

"ZERO M-Series Sizing Dies
$450.00 – $650.00

This is a PRE-ORDER, with expected shipment date of February 1st, 2023. At this time, dies are ONLY shipping with ZERO M-Series Shellholders. If you are using ANY other press, you will need to wait on the future release of a traditional, or non-ZERO shellholder.

If you have one of our existing headspace-adjustable shellholder kits, it WILL NOT work with the M-Series die, as this die requires a large-diameter shellholder. That kit will be very useful with the S-Series die, coming in 2023."

Thanks to F-Class John for this review of the new OAL bullet comparator from Accuracy One.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihQKEdqC09I

$160 plus shipping and insurance. Not listed as a product on their website yet, but looks to be a nice tool, and one I think I'll be happy to have, as opposed to trying to fiddle with calipers.

In order to get one on order, you'll have to call Accuracy One to get on the list. The first 100 have already sold out, and yes I've got mine on order which should be delivered next week. Another 200 should be available within the next couple of weeks. Contact details for Accuracy One are below.

Reloading / Brownells has H4350 in stock
November 11, 2022, 06:22:42 PM
Got an email from Brownells. They are showing H4350 in 1# and 8# jugs in stock. Also a number of other Hodgdon powders, H110 etc.

Their email says no limits, but no idea what stock they have.

This is popping around a number of other long range forums already with a note from Capstone Precision Group. Lapua is suspending production of a number of popular cases citing high demand, market conditions and the war in the Ukraine.

6.5cm is NOT one of the suspended ones, but 6.5x47, 6.5 Grendel, 6.5-284, and 6mm CM are among the ones being dropped for now.

For those of you not on the the Discord GRT channel, Gordon has passed away on January 26th. The long term status of GRT has not been determined as of yet, but there are a number of people working to keep that project afloat, and I'm sure at some point we'll hear from Gordon's heirs.

In that Discord GRT channel, there is also a discussion on a workaround for the June 1st, 2022 end date for the current version of GRT.

It's very sad to have lost such a valuable contributor to the shooting sports.
