Good range day

Today was my last day for the year doing RSO duty at the range, and man, was it a great one! 80 degrees and bright sunshine! Everyone, even the usual curmudgeons were in a good mood, lol.

We had one member show up to shoot a single-six he just acquired, the guy has to be close to 100 years old, in a wheel chair, retired US Navy. The member who brought his old friend to the range is a Vietnam Vet who himself served active duty.

Then we had a retired Air Force member who told stories in the office that left us young 'uns breathless.

Have you ever felt like you're in the presence of Angels? That's how I felt today, I'm so blessed to be around those who gave so much, so we can all enjoy our freedoms!

Thought I'd share a couple pictures of our ranges at a quiet moment.

This one is the 100 yard range, members can shoot at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards. Standing position permitted at 75 and 100 for rifles. Powerful handguns like .454 Casull permitted, seated only.

This is the 100/200/300 yard range, the longest we have here. 16 benches, a reloading room, a wood stove for the cold days, and, wait for it, wait for it, a golf cart to run out targets  ;D .

Nice looking range!!  I like trees and bushes along the sides.

Wish we had golf cart for our 300 yard range.  But in seeing how people treat the other range gear, I doubt it would last long.

If everything seems under control......you're just not going fast enough

If the one gentleman is truly close to 100yo he could have been a WWII vet....we don't have many of those left. I would love to listen to his stories for awhile.

Nice range!!

Chris that property looks very well maintained.  Is that work done by members or do they hire to have it done?

Our members do all the work Jerry. Two Tuesdays a month we have voluntary work parties. We used to have an arrangement with the county jail for inmates to get credit for work but, some bad apples arranged for their outside contacts to heave drugs over the fence so the inmate work party would find them  >:( .

RSO duty is 4 days a year, in return we can shoot Tuesday through Thursday when the range is closed.

I'm concerned that the management members are getting on in years, the state has become intensely hostile to gun owners, many members I have talked to are contemplating an exit plan. Then who's going to pilot the ship?

Do the members own the property?

No, from what I can tell it's owned by a non-profit corporation.
