A friend of mine who is new to benchrest shooting and reloading just purchased a BR long range rifle chambered in 6x47. He has asked me for reloading advice on this cartridge. Unfortunately I have no prior experience there. The limited reading I've done says the case will push even the higher weight 6mm bullets into the 3100 to 3200 fps range, however, there still seems to be a precision problem with those bullets above 110 gr in weight. Powders seem to center around the H4350 and H4831SC burn rate.
I'm curious if any of our members have first hand experience with this cartridge and would be able to share their insights.

No experience with the 47 jerry but lots of experience with the 6 mm creedmoor and 105 hybrids.. you can push the creedmoor to 3150 and that's pushing it hard.. the 47 has less case capacity than the 6 creedmoor so the 3100 to 3200 range would be a stretch I think.. the 6 creedmoor at 3150 has a short barrel life.. it's most happy at the 3050 range.. I would think the 47 would be as well in the low 3000 range..

I have a couple of 6.5x47's.  I know several people (including teammates) that shoot 6x47's and they have propelled 105s, 107s, 109, 110s and 115s mostly with RL16, H4350 and N150.  They don't push the 3000 mark & stay down in the 2850ish range now. One teammate pushed the limit for a while and had pressure issues in the summer heat in PRS matches. I use N140 in my 6.5x47s with 140s (hybrids and ELDm).

Eric Cortina has a video on one of his websites (I think the www.shootsmallgroups.com site) on loading for the 6x47.  He was all about using a specific reamer.

Good lead there with the Cortina video. I will track it down. The 6mm bullet I would use is happiest around 3020 so that should be no problem for this case. Seems like most folks are using H4350. I would like to see what H 4831SC will do as well.

Old data from back in the day. Savage model 10 with a Shilen Select Match in 6x47L

The accuracy is there, I wouldn't be afraid to shoot BR with one but the little BRA is a lot less hungry 😂

First pic is some of the first rounds down the barrel.

Middle pic is tuning seating fairly new on the barrel

Third pic was last fall I dusted it off and took a guess with 107 SMKs.
The leftovers put 5 on steel at a thou in 5-6"
