Howdy Y'all

Hello from almost East Texas.
Santa brought me a Thompson Center in 6.5 CM. I hope I can shoot the thing, if not back to Grendel. Injury has left me rather recoil sensitive, so everyone says this one is mild and a muzzle brake was painless to install.
I don't shoot LR, but would rather have a little more bullet for hunting and prefer a bolt gun for that. This will provide both. A few boxes of Federal Non-Typical 140 grain came with it. Looking at the interwebs, it seems to be a decent choice.
I plan to roll my own at some point, just because I like doing that. Right now I'm looking to Berger VLD in 140 grain. Not sure what to put it on top of, but that is part of why I'm here.  If the Non-Typical is as good as reviews claim, and my barrel likes it, that may be a nice option as well. Pretty cheap for CM ammo, so we'll see.
Anyhoo, looking forward to reading up on the thing.

Welcome Lostintexas,
I tried a couple boxes of the Fed Non Typical 140s when I was waiting for brass with my first Creed.  It was surprisingly accurate and shot 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups right off the starting line.  Never bought any more so don't know how consistent it would have been from lot to lot.
The brass itself was way heavier than the Federal & Starline brass that I have purchased since.
Good luck with your TC/creed combo.

Thanks, I've been reading up on the RL16. Went looking for the 17 and found there was a little better choice.
Thanks for the info on the Federal ammo as well.

BTW, do you have to verify and type in the Mexican Island every time you try to post?

lost,
Welcome from central Louisiana.  Factory ELD-X and 140 AccuBond from Federal good hunting choices.  I am partial to the 140 Berger Elite Hunter loaded by Copper Creek.  Have killed every critter I have turned one loose on.
If you have the shot, take it.

Thanks all. I got to take a range trip to sight and shoot in the barrel. Not too bad. A lot better than me.
The softest shooting bolt action I think I ever sat behind. Not much more than my 6.5 Grendel in an AR. I'm very happy, almost giddy. Upper body injuries halted my heavier rifle use. This should handle anything I will ever hunt, or hope to.

Anyhoo, I am looking hard at the tipped Game King in 130 grain. This looks like something I could play nice with and will take deer, hogs, predators and most anything short of Nilgai that Texas has to offer. A heavier offering would probably handle the Blue's but I don't really have any visions of getting a crack at those. I like a bonded, so the Scirocco would be a very nice alternative, just more expensive. For a dedicated hunting round, I wouldn't have a problem with these if the GK doesn't pan out, but I really think it will.
RL 16 seems to be a good choice, but how does it do across temperatures? It gets good reviews, but I take those with a grain of salt.

Cheers

Welcome aboard.  One time in the spring I picked up 79 out of Texarkana and took it all the way to Austin in a 67 Volkswagen with $200 dollars and my guitar.  Yeah, Bluebonnets.  "Almost lost" in Texas.  Alas, I digress.
See you at the range.

Welcome, I have had excellent results with Nosler's bonded core Acubond 129 gr over H4350.  It's a little tougher than other tipped bullets.  I think they also make a 140 gr Acubond.  Good luck.

I mostly hunt with 130s, Swift Sirocco 2 and 130 gr TSX.
Amazingly good game getters. For down where you are, I would shoot 120 gr bullets. The have noticeably less recoil that the 140 s.
If your going to be a Bush Alaskan You need a perfect winter rifle. The Ruger M77 Hawkeye SS in 6.5 Creedmoor is mine.<br>You are being watched.
