General Discussion / Solar eclipse

Here in southern indiana were experiencing something pretty cool.. a total solar eclipse.. supposed to last a little over 4 minutes.. the moon started getting in front of the sun about a hour ago.. it's still probably 20 minutes away from totality.. the state of Indiana has pretty much shut down for this.. lol.. their expecting people from all over the world to flock here to witness this.. lol.. if I remember correctly this will be the third time seeing a total solar eclipse..not really a big deal to me but pretty cool none the less.. we got glasses and a good dark welding helmet for me to look at it..

Beautiful morning here this morning.. only a hint of wind..good day to get a little 22lr practice in before my match sunday.. I moved my little kyl rack to 50 yards.. cleaned it twice with 2 hits each pass on the 1/4 inch swinger.. then went to a 100 yards and hit some 1 inch swingers..
My boy got me a 22lr dueling tree for Christmas with 3 inch plates on it.. I put it out at 140 yards and beat it up a few times.. then had a 6and 4 inch gong at 175 yards and missed my first 2 at the 6 inch but hit with my 3rd shot and hit it 2 more time and the 4 inch 3 times without missing again.. the little cz is shooting well today..

Gave that kyl rack at 450 yards a beating this afternoon with my 25 creedmoor.. they was another 2 inch plate hanging on that little short bar in the middle but when I smacked it it ripped it off never to be seen again.. the 25 continues to shoot well..

I wanted to post a pic with this but I can't seem to get the postimage site to load..

If you want a automated system why not just play a video game..

Quote from: DHuffman on April 01, 2024, 09:52:36 PMI always read rim thickness was the important rim fire sort?

I had read that as well and have looked at that.. rim thickness on quality ammo is nil... their is no difference that I seen.. now the cheaper stuff has a big variance in rim thickness

It would be interesting to do that exact test over again to confirm.

Leadhammer I've repeated that test several times last fall when I was shooting them matches.. the good sorts always repeated and shot good.. the bad ones never got any better.. what's kinda funny is out of sorting 4 different lots of the sk+ 51.3 51.4 and 51.5 was always the ones that shot the best in my rifle..

The w in prcw comes from wheeler bob.. and he may have changed the 6.5prc case dimensions a little like neck length or shoulder angle but I'm not sure on that..

So here's the sort.. 51.4 and 51.5 is what I will shoot in this first match.. it's not a great lot of ammo but it will be competitive..

Quote from: Rob01 on March 31, 2024, 10:57:02 AMWhat about that little guy in the left target off to the right? 😉

With better ammo the unsorted groups will look like your sorted.

That one could have been me rob.. probably not though.. the group on the left is from the low end of the sort.. I doubt I see that lone wolf once I test the middle 3 weights of the sort.. but I might.. don't know with this lot because I haven't tested the middle yet.. with the other two lots I have shot that flyer went away in the main part of the sort.. I watch enough 22lr shooters to know the very best 22 lr rounds have flyers..
