That big spike was 8.5 years old! Amazing how he survived that long and the fact that you can't control genetics in a wild deer herd as I doubt he was a virgin. 
All of the deer were taken with Wby Vanguards in 6.5 Creed loaded with Speer 140 grain Hot-Cor bullets.

I lived in Georgia for 4 years working on my PhD. My stipend was 15 a year and my wife made 12 working for UGA. We had two daughters and finding nickels to rub together was a little tough. I took four whitetail a year and processed them with some cheap beef and pork to make hamburger and sausage. Super good animal protein for the family.

My 5 kids pretty much lived on venison.  A farmer friend gave me a beef roast for helping him butcher.
One of my kids at supper said; "whats wrong with this meat?"!

We call them cowhorns.  When I was stationed at FT Bragg, head biologist wanted every single one shot on sight.  Head for TN in the morning.  Muzzleloader opens next Saturday.  Have trail cam pics of a 4.5 year old cowhorn.  He is my #1 hit lister.  Wife called me an hour ago and got me all twisted up.  She rode to the back of the property and found boot prints and four wheeler tracks.  Have it posted properly.  Stevie Wonder could discern the property line.  Will hunt some but will double my efforts to catch these yahoos.
I have a criminal mind but I never even vaguely had the urge to trespass.  I have spent a lot of time and money on this place so I take it personal.

Good luck Sportacus!  We own a 100 acres that we hunt and so far we haven't had any major issues. I guess the fact that we have a range right down the middle helps a bit. Besides standard NO TRESSPASSING signs we also the entire perimeter posted with big red signs that read DANGER IMPACT AREA, KEEP OUT RIFLE RANGE.
It seems to help.

Farmer that put in my food plots must have run his mouth.  Have 112 acres, mostly hardwoods with about 40 acres in small pastures.  Everything is planted on the interior.  Have to trespass quite a ways to get to the plots.  I will put up more cameras and have the state game warden and Sheriff's dispatch on speed dial.   

On my 80 in Wisconsin a pipeline & powerline run parallel diagonally corner to corner for that half+ mile.
At the road we have it posted and a woven wire fence crosses both right of ways.
We here every excuse in the book like; " i thought all powerlines are public"  or  "you cant post powerlines".

A few years back there was a truck parked by it and i saw a guy about a 40 into my land.  I walked part way in and asked him what he was doing on private.....he didnt see the sign 20 feet from his truck....he got on his phone and called his two buddies....they were making a drive on the full 80!   
Wonder if he would agree to pay the taxes on my place because certainly I'm not getting my moneys worth.   Surrounded by 1000s of acres of public land but they just got to spook out my 80 too.
Good luck finding those jerks Wayne.  Dont be too rough on them they might be the same jokers from Wisconsin.....just make them sh*t their pants.

If i had a chance at both of them the "spike" would go down first just because of his uniqueness!

Nice work Downeast!  Plenty of good stuff,  for the freezer! 

Here in se NC most of the yearling (1.5 yr.) bucks are spikes. But by 2.5 you rarely ever see a spike and most are small 6 and 8 pointers (between the ears). It's amazing what one year can do. When I was working as a biologist I would age literally hundreds of bucks a season and it was surprising how few 2.5 and older bucks were spikes. So, to say that a spike will always be a spike was not supported by the data I collected.
