Thanksgiving has been my favorite holiday for a long time now.. my mom would always put a spread on the table that would founder a small town.. this year will be different though as I lost my mom about a month ago..
This year I will have my own thanksgiving.. I plan on doing a non traditional meal.. gonna smoke a bone in pork loin on the smoker.. a big pan of creek fries on the grill.. some green beans and sweetcorn out of the garden.. I will still walk away with a full belly wich I will be thankful for..😁

Grant I'm sorry to hear your mom passed. I've been through the same with both of my folks. Your life changes with their passing but you move on. I hope you fill your Thanksgiving with the wonderful memories she gave you.

Grant, truly sorry to hear about your mom.  Holidays and traditions may change, new ones started but all the memories will always be with us.  My wife and I will be doing our own thing this year.....we both enjoy the cooking and definitely the feasting.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Jeff,
Thanks for starting the T-Day thread. Grant, sorry for your recent loss. I lean on my memories of the awesome Thanksgivings of the past when our clan was expansive and assembled at Mam Maw's house. Thoughts of those days make me smile. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Sorry to hear you lost your mom Grant, mine passed years ago, I know how it feels  :(

I'm giving some extra thanks tomorrow: I was trying to fix my ceiling-mounted air hose reel yesterday, up on a ladder in the shop (garage). I found the problem, got a box-end wrench and a socket so I could re-coil the retractor spring mechanism, back up on the ladder. Right as I started, the thanksgiving Tweety bird on my right shoulder said "set down the tools, get off the ladder, put your safety glasses on, then start". The stubborn, lazy, good-for-nothing buzzard on my left shoulder said "ignore the cute bird, it's almost lunch time, its freezing cold, just do it". Wisely, I listened to Tweety. Right as I got the spring tensioned the socket cut loose, the wrench launched into my glasses (and skull), ripped the glasses off my face, and left a small goose egg on my forehead  :o. I'm fine, and thankful, if I'd lost an eye, or two, don't know what the heck I'd do.

Chris, glad you are OK.....not a good way to start the Holiday.  It is amazing how often we have these little inner voices telling us when we are potentially at risk.  I find, as you did, it wise to listen.  Hope you heal up quick.  Have a great Thanksgiving.

My Thanksgiving dinner.. every thing cooked with my home made wild cherry lump charcoal.. the pork loin was on the smoker at 225 for about 5 hours.. fall off the bone good.. the creek fries, green beans and cut sweetcorn all came from the garden and cooked in tins on the grill.. I have to say it was some mighty fine eatin.. :D
