Hunting / Re: Killed a turkey yesterday

Love turkey hunting. This year was pretty slow compared to last year. Only saw/heard one gobbler in 10 days out on my sister's farm in Missouri and just came home this past Saturday. Last year harvested two big (25lb) toms. Also using a 20ga (Mossberg pump), but with Federal 3rd Degree.

OK, getting closer to finally putting a barreled action into that MDT chassis.

I know I asked once before about 22lr ammo, but have been looking at various match brands, SK, Eley, Lapua etc, and gasping somewhat at the 40 plus cents per round prices. Granted, less than my 6.5cm reloads, but still a bit pricey.

Any further updates on preferences for ammo.

Quote from: Denver Steve on April 09, 2024, 11:31:23 AMI'm lucky I have a pile of years worth of components on hand. But when they run out, i won't be able to afford to buy anymore.

I''m kind of in the same boat. Have enough for what I see that I'll be able to shoot for a few more years, then will need to re-assess everything.

Quote from: DHuffman on March 06, 2024, 12:38:52 PMThey said it was coming, guess they weren't bluffing.

By my purchase records, H4350 has doubled in price since 2017.

Will be looking forward to your comparison/review on the new Garmin. I'm still holding out, as I haven't used my Labrador much recently anyway. (Original Big Orange version)

It's getting pretty sad when a pound of powder costs more than a decent bottle of bourbon...

Love those pics. I've been wanting a Browning SA-22 for as long as I can remember. Maybe one of these days I'll find one.

General Discussion / Re: Did you shoot today?

Wish I had easy access to a 500 yard, or longer range..

My closest range (outdoor) is 100 yards max. Within a 2 hour drive I can get out to 300 yards on any given day, but I can't place paper targets at that distance. I can only use their steel targets. Monthly, the same range with the 300 yard range, has a shoot out to 1200 yards, with a variety of targets between 200 yards and 1200 yards, also all steel. So, pretty much impossible to actually look at longer range groups with any precision.

Bolt Action Rifles / Re: Ruger American Gen II
December 19, 2023, 08:31:28 AM
I keep looking at the Ruger American rifles in 5.56, as a backup to AR platforms. Magazine interchange is also an attractive feature. Will have to take a look at the Gen IIs.

I also like the fact that the barrel is threaded for 1/2-28, so I can swap out the muzzle brake, for one that will quick attach to one of my suppressors.
