No offense tar and i get it.. but personally not a big fan of this practice.. farmers driving around on 400,000 dollar tractors pulling 200,000 dollar planters and a millon dollars worth of equipment in their fields come harvest time.. they want all the deer and game dead so they dont eat a few hundred dollars worth of crops. big deal.. . most of them that do this around my area wont let hunters on their property come hunting season.. sorry just not a fan of it.. i am glad to hear the eldx performed as it should..
I hear what you are saying about the large farm operations...this guy is not one of them...he operates and maintains old equipment....he drives a 20 year old pickup and works his backside off every day to make it...he has a very unique situation that cost him thousands a year in crop damage...this particular land trac is 750 acres that is land locked on 3 sides...1 side borders a State park while another side is a bordering conservancy and the 3rd is in a trust with no hunting allowed in any of these 3 areas...all foliage at deer head height is void...you can see into the timber for a 100 yards or more...you take a stroll around these bean fields in mid August you will see 10-20 deer PER field....there will be large areas in the fields that are ankle high beans when they should be waist high...the damage is very real...you would have to see it to grasp it...when I was first approached about this I thought he was exaggerating the extent of the damage...he wasnt...last year for the first time in the State parks history they held a special hunt to thin them out as they are destroying the parks eco system and everything around it...there is talk of making the park hunts a annual thing to control the numbers...and he does allow hunters through the regular season...its just not enough for the time being. The numbers are so high in this county that the state allows for 8 bonus county does PER person and its still not enough!

Hunting / ELD-X

My farmer buddy called this past Tuesday to inform me that the deer depredation permits were in!! I ran over to his place and picked them up the same day...I have been waiting  for a long time to try out the 143 grn.ELD-X....I had read that the ELD-X did not have a thick enough jacket for close range shots under a 100 yards...I put 4 on the ground...ranging from 75 yards to 276 yards....3 of the 4 did not take another step with no exit...mid to high shoulder shots....the 2nd one killed was a hard quartering away shot  at 75 yards..it caught a rib going in and utterly destroyed the heart and exited...it ran approx. 40 yards...I am always amazed that a deer can take that kind of hit and run any distance with the heart blowed out! The blood trail was insane! My son was running his .243 and the 90 grn.  ELD-x...same results  3 deer...DRT...one other in our group was running  a Bergara Wilderness model in 6.5 creedmoor and the 143 grn. ELD-X..DRT high shoulder shot at 276 yards...it appears that in this initial hide testing that the ELD-X is going to work just fine! Having said that I am loading up some Nosler 142 grn. Accubonds and some Sierra 140 grn.Gamechangers with RL16 to try as well...I love this real world testing! No pics this time as we had to get busy skinning and filling coolers! I have a new ShotKam  I need to try out...

Ignorance IS bliss!!!! I still inside ream those donuts out but fell in love with another of your high dollar gadgets! I will probably pick one up in a couple of years after I get everything settled and back up and running in Montana. I gotta get my reloading bench reset and start up my A&D FX120i V3 before I bang my head and find the V4 on my doorstep.
I have heard rumors of a 1000 yard rifle range east of Missoula and I am itching to get back on the range and dot some paper victims. I am loving life here but I sure am missing Range 12 back at Sacramento Valley. That range has spoiled me for life.

BTW does that reamer come with a mood light???
