Ruger scope rings should match Ruger rifles, no?

http://www.opticsplanet.com/ruger-scope-ring-4k-medium-stainless-steel-90282.html
Well I received the Ruger rings. While I'm happy with the color - it's not a match, but is dull and not shiny, they do not fit on my rifle! The bases are too small at only about 1/2" wide! Perhaps these are the ones for the proprietary M77 bases, even though it says "almost any rifle" in the description. You would think that would mean regular weaver bases. Guess not. Luckily, Optics Planet has a hassle free return policy. Still searching.

Glad you got that one!
Wolves are a rapidly growing problem here in WI. Even DNR-confirmed attacks on humans!
Dear humans: Be Armed. Be Ready.

Good plan. I never liked the .270 either myself. And that Savage is a sweet gun!

I ordered the Ruger ones. Will see how they match up.
Thanks everyone for the discussion.

Are there any stainless steel scope rings on the market that match the dull stainless color of the American and M77 model rifles? Warne, Leupold, Weaver and others are too bright in color and look horrible on the matte stainless Rugers.

Gunsmithing / Re: Ruger American Aftermarket Stock
November 14, 2015, 10:08:32 AM
I just installed my prairie hunter in peppered finish on my American All-Weather 7mm-08. It was my second Boyd's stock, first one being for my 10/22 which was an incredibly good value. The stock for the American fits like it's supposed to. However, having the integrated magazine catch on the factory stock, Boyd's addressed this with a plastic tab that gets fastened underneath the front-most lug. The tab was too big. It didn't allow the magazine to snap up into place as it couldn't get completely clear of that tab. It was an easy fix as I just shaved off about 1/16" which gave the magazine the clearance to install fully into the firearm.  A small washer used as a spacer underneath the tab as well makes for a sleeker magazine detach by relieving pressure from the mechanical catch on the magazine.
Bad picture, but proof that it fits.
Now my mis-matched-colored scope rings really stand out for some reason vs. with the black stock.
I'm happy with it. Gonna get a standard style in nutmeg for my other American.

That is a good story! Wish I had opportunities like that to get out of the thick brush and hunt a large area like that. But, I am a central Wisconsin whitetail hunter. Gonna have to book a trip out west.

General Discussion / Opinions On 204 Ruger ?
November 03, 2015, 11:48:52 AM
I want to pick up a American Predator for coyote and smaller size vermin. Also like to play in the backyard range and see what I can do for distances and accuracy, and what kinds of things I can shatter/pop/blow up on impact.
I'm far from being a "standard" cartridge guy. Always leaning towards something different and not as popular to the mainstream public.  I almost bought one months back in a 223 but the gun shop guy mentioned his inclination to steer people toward the 204. I put it on hold and google searched and youtube watched anything I could find on the 204. I'm a huge Ruger fan too so that made it easy for me to give it serious consideration. I think I want to go for it. Cost of ammo/cost of reloading is of minimal concern to me. I just want to know the bullet is going to do its job and offer advantages over the 223. Would it be a mistake to buy this rifle?

Quote from: ScottYo on October 26, 2015, 11:42:59 AMDuno if anyone here has been watching MotoGP this year, if your not now is a great time to watch. This has been one of the best years of all time, the last two races have been awesome!
I hate to say I've lost touch with that scene when they went 4Stroke although despite them cutting faster lap times, with the suspension and frame technology it is way safer than the 2stroke days. Tires are light years also. Those guys were literally riding the back of the beast!
I raced 600, 750 supersport and some endurance GTU. Paying for it now at 50 lol. That said I've found nothing more exhilarating than dragging your knee at 165mph so far in this life
Who's got the target on his back this year, Rossi? Pedrosa? So many talented young guns... Did you ever meet one of those factory caliber racers? They're built like jockeys!!!!
It's great to see every time there's a rule change and the affect that it has on the lap times. When they went from 990cc four stroke to 800cc, the times actually got faster because of more corner speed, and the racing got closer. It was pretty screwed up the last two years with the claiming rules and the non-factory bikes. But the 4-stroke days are at their peak of competitiveness right now!
The track day organization I'm affiliated with works closely with Jason Pridmore, he has integrated his program into ours. Pridmore is a teacher in a teacher's finest form. And his stories about Mladin and Hayden can't be beat! He will testify that physical fitness training is the most important part of being able to be on top. Hands down the most physically demanding sport on the planet.

Pleasantly surprised to see this topic on here. :)
I'm a former racer myself and been following MotoGP since 2003.
My DVR has all the races on it, but between working on my new boat, fishing from it, and hunting, I have not watched a single race at all this season. Boy you know I've heard all about them though from my hundreds of acquaintances around the world. Lots of antics this year! This winter you'll find me in front of the TV getting caught up!

Quote from: quietcanine on October 11, 2015, 08:50:58 PMBeen thinking about this - I sure know the type. Like someone who drives a Kia makes no sense to me, as I love cars, but some people just don't care about them.

Comment on the Kia statement...
I guess I don't get it. People who drive Kias drive Kias because they don't care about cars? Why did you pick Kia? Fords are fine? Chevys too? What about Nissans or Hondas?
Lots of car guys drive Kias. They make a very appealing and luxurious, yet low-priced product. Automotive sales are also defined by the market, much like firearms.
Do you frown upon the guy who buys the $400 Savage vs. the $800 Remington and accuse them of not being a gun person?
