Bolt Action Rifles / Re: Cleaning Rod Recommendations

No embedding issues so far knock on wood.

As I recall, it wasn't a blanket statement regarding all coated rods, but I think one would want to avoid the in-expensive 'soft' plastic coated rods you might find for sale. ;)

I have read that certain coated rods should be avoided. I understand the issue is for the potential of something to get embedded in the rod coating and an infinitesimally small chance that the embedded particulate could damage bore/crown etc.

I have been using a Gunslick 1-pc carbon fiber cleaning rod for about 5 years now (previously had used a .22 cal stainless steel 1 piece rod that I had been using for approx. 20 yrs). The idea behind the carbon fiber rod is suppose to eliminate particle pickup their by eliminating any possible damage to your barrel.

Shootout over a $25.00 bill

Cliff notes from the article:

-The owner's wife was working at the store when two customers, a man and his son, entered to pick up a firearm that had been repaired.

-There was some contention about a $25 fee, so in an attempt to clear up the dispute, the woman called her husband, who later arrived with his son.

-An argument ensued between the owners and the customers. During this argument, there was some pushing and shoving.

-One of the customers and one of the owners produced firearms although it's unclear who fired first.

-All four men were shot. The two customers were airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

(The liberals will be having a feast with this... ::))

Quote from: Edw on January 16, 2016, 03:54:00 PMMy scope of choice is a Nightforce ATACR with a MoarT retical 5x25. It works very well for 1000yd target work as well as in the field

This is the scope I went with and I'm exceptionally pleased with it's clarity and resolution. Mine is 2nd focal plane, but I am primarily shooting at know distances.

Midway, Brownells, Cabela's, Mills Fleet Farm etc. for brushes, jags and other cleaning supplies. For patches, I just cut up old T-Shirts.

FWIW, I went with the Heavy Tungsten spring set-up and used the RA UltraMatch BCG on a 308 upper (MEGA) build. I opted for the JP 308 HP BCG on the 6.5 CM build and each platform functions flawlessly.

Interesting idea.

Not sure what happened, maybe the fact that I had case a vote.. At any rate, I just took a look at the website again and on the right side of the page there is a link with the Federal Assault firearms Ban Poll at the top:

Gunsmithing / Re: Ar-10 6.5 Cm Bcg Question
November 30, 2015, 10:25:26 PM
I have built 2 AR10 platforms (1 in 6.5 CM and the other is a 308). For the CM build I went with a JP Low Mass HP bolt and the JP Silent Capture Spring. For the 308 I also went JP SC Spring but went with a Rainier Arms Ultramatch BCG. Both rifles function flawlessly.

The addition of an adj. gas block is a no-brainier as far as I'm concerned. ;)

Optics, Sights, Mounts, Etc. / Re: Quick Release Rings?

Quote from: Stugotz on November 06, 2015, 10:25:57 PMI own 4 rifles each with a Bobro mount and they all perform flawlessly. I have removed 3 of them (and re-attached) repeatedly to near perfect zero. I would not hesitate to buy another Bobro.

I just purchased this mount (Bobro Precision Optic Mount 34-20 34mm QD Scope Mount - 20 MOA Cant) from Sport Optics for $264.95 shipped. They honored a price match.

Not about Bobro quality but right tool for the job.

I can pull my Seekins rings off and put them back on and they are usually right on or within .1 mil. $130 and the height works well on a bolt gun.

Rob, Great to hear the Seekins rings set is working for you! I have used Bobro mounts for years with no issues and plan to stick with what has worked for me... 8)

AR Variants / Re: 6.5 Maten Build

Quote from: michael1778 on November 07, 2015, 08:45:30 PMWhat does your brass look like running the 140s?  I've often seen remarks that heavy bullets like that lead to more abuse of the brass during the firing, extraction, and ejection process in semi-autos.  That is why I've been eyeing 123 or 130 grain bullets for my 6.5 semi-auto project.  Unfortunately, I don't have any relevant first-hand experience.
The issue with brass and shooting heavier loads was a big concern of mine, but after I inspected my spent casings I am very eager to develop some loads with heavier bullets. (Bottom line, the brass/primers showed no signs of pressure etc). YMMV
