Well ok.  We had our second club match today at Grant County.  It is Long Range Bench Rest.  We shoot 10 record shots at 300 yards and then 10 record shots at 600 yards.  Temp was 70 degrees but the wind was stiff.  Shooting my 6mm BR Haverkamp I needed 6 MOA at 600 to just get on the sighter plate.  Wind was a prefect crosswind.  My score at 600 was 88/100 which I felt was fortunate.

At 300 I did a little better.  Was a click high for the first four shots.  Noticed them at that point and went down 1 click ( 1/8 moa) and shot the final 6.  Krieger 8tw Heavy Varmint with 1100 rounds fired.

Figured I'd share a few pics from the bench today.

This is my Sig SSG3000 rifle with a Benchmark 6.5 Creedmoor 24" barrel. I found an Accurate-Mag chassis for it, a Sightron 10-50x60 scope rides on top. She's wearing the Ace muzzle brake Dave recommended, really liking it.

Here's an overview picture:

I use an Atlas bipod up front and an Atlas monopod on the buttstock. My latest ghetto-gadget is a Harbor Freight magnetic indicator base which I use for lateral stability. The post was dipped in Plasti Dip, usually seen on the handles of pliers and other tools, kind of rubberized. A 12"x3"x0.5" piece of good 'ole 'murcan steel serves as the base. Anyway, once I get vertical set with the monopod, I can ease the post up against the buttstock and lean into it for lateral support.

Here's a couple pictures:

You know, no matter what gear we all use, there's just no substitute for getting out to the range and having a great time  ;D

A last ditch effort to cut the hay on my shooting range, now has me with lawnmower blues again! Snowblower and lawnmower repairs consume my life!
Without the range cut I have not been able to shoot all summer! That stupid cub cadet lawn mower is spitting the belt off the moment I turn the electric clutch pto switch on!!
Same shit from last summer!
I wanted to shoot and get some info on that Christian arms 6
5 creed barrel! I think it will be my out west rifle thisvfall!

Shot my 6.5 creedmoor a few times yesterday and today.. kinda something going on with it I've not seen yet..
Yesterday when I went to shoot it my first 2 shots was at a 100 yards to check zero and it was dead on with the second shot being maybe a half a bullet width higher.. I'm restricted to 250 yards now the corn is up tall.. so I start shooting at 250 and the next 3 or 4 shots kept climbing a little bit higher then it settled in and shot really good.. after shooting 15 or 20 shots at 250 I went back to a 100 to see what my zero looked like.. and with a good and warmed up barrel it was a inch high.. when I started this session the barrel had about 20 rounds down it from the previous session.. so I started off with a cold fouled barrel..

Today I take it out there and again check zero with my first shot.. dead on again.. my next shot a fuzz higher.. my 3rd shot a half inch higher my 4th shot 3/4 inch high my 5th shot back to a inch high and the next 3 went in the same hole as the 5th shot..

I then rezeroed my rifle.. back to dead on at a 100 yards.. shot 10 or 15 rounds at 250 and the gun shot great..

Let it set up on my shooting platform and completely cool off back to ambient temperature.. 90 degrees.. shot one more round at a 100 to see if the zero was still good or if it was going to be low since it had cooled completely down .. but it was still dead center..

The only thing I can think of that could be doing this is taking the gun out of a 72 degree air conditioned building into a humid as hell 90 degrees temperature and the barrel going through some kind of wierd acclamation process.. any thoughts.. or maybe even the rounds going from 72 to 90.. I don't know.. wierd.. shot great after everything got use to the temp outside..

I assume your ammo also started at 72 degrees and then acclimated to the 90 degree temp....probably not the whole explanation but perhaps a contributing factor.

Yep bob everything came out of a air conditioned building.. I realize the first cold bore shot might be a little different but normally after that first one they all start going where they should.. just haven't seen the first 5 climb like that..
