With RL 17 my lowest SD was at 40.3 gr 2715 FPS SD 7 from a 26" Krieger I pierced a primer at 42.4 gr. don't get to hung up trying to push the speed envelope finding a low SD load will pay off more at long range than the speed will within reason. You might try Superformance it seems easy to find and I've also found it more accurate with the 140gr bullets than RL17 in my rifle, and meters like water.

Reloading / Re: Not enough neck tension for auto loader

Yes I agree but I shoot a lot and it's a lot cheaper to reload around half the cost.  I tried out the crimp die tonight only had time for a couple loads but the groups shrunk down quite a bit from what my hand loads where producing. Second five shot group with the crimp was around 1.2 " four of the five where at .6 at lease I think the neck tention has been my issue with the hand loads. Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel was about to order a set of Redding dies if this didn't cure the issue but that's a lot more $ than these Lee's I picked up. The rifle is an AR308 chambered in 6.5 CM 26" Krieger barrel with head spaced bolt from Fulton armory DPMS upper and lower 6-18 Leopold been extreamly pleased with the groups this thing throws from the factory 140gr amax match ammo. Was shooting a couple of my AR15's out to around 1000 yards but I couldn't go past around 700 yards with my normal loads and the 75-80gr amax would make it but couldn't load them to mag length and it was a pain in the $&@. to single feed them and fighting the wind with a .223 is diffacult. Decided to step up to a much better round for long range have been very very happy with this 6.5 CM may build another rifle in this caliber but will be a bolt gun if or when I do.

Thanks I'm not sure that is my issue in this instance but I will keep that in mind if I can't get playing around with the neck tension to work. The issue was not as pronounced when I switched from the collet die .001 neck tension to the full length sizing die. I loaded a couple 5 round test batches tonight using the factory crimp die if I get chance I will test them out tomorrow. The factory hornady 140 grain match ammo will shoot in the .2's with all but the first round it throws that one about a .5-.6 high right its driving me a little crazy. My hand loads aren't as good as the factory loads but I can't lay my hands on any H4350 tried RL 17 and IMR 4350 nether was great but I'm curtain I'm fighting this neck tension issue. Every five shot group with just about any charge weight throws the first round high right then the rest will group relatively well depending on OCW test I'm running. I know the rifle is capable of great accuracy but not getting my reloads to group well is a little maddening at times part of the fun of reloading I guess.

Reloading / Not enough neck tension for auto loader

Guys

I could use a little advise I have a new AR 308 I built chambered in 6.5 CM and get great groups with factory 140 loads except the first round with the bolt behind the bolt catch I run it into battery and will get that one round to fly high every time >:(even with factory loads then put the rest in a tight group. I was using a Lee collet neck die but decided there simply wasn't enough neck tension and my bullets where unseating slightly on chambering giving a longer COAL. I next tried the full length resizer and things did tighten up but still not as tight as the factory rounds and I even get that first round high flyer even with them. Anyone else run into a similar issue with there auto loader. I'm considering using a lee factory crimp die next maybe that will cure the issue I'm seeing. I've loaded thousands of rounds for ar15's and never ran into this but those are light 50-75gr bullets compared to these 140gr monsters
