Reloading / Re: Hodgden Superperformance powder

In-laws RPR likes 45.5gr of Superformance under 140gr Amax

My 6.5 semiautomatic likes 44.6gr with 140gr bthp match bullets

Reloading / Re: IMR 4831

I've never used IMR 4831 but I've used H4831SC it was very very accurate but the burn rate was a little slower than H4350 so I didn't get the speed I wanted for shooting a 1000yds.

SuperFormance is a very good powder in 6.5 Creedmoor. If I get out to my reloading bench tomorrow I'll post a couple of loads where I found accuracy nodes.

Reloading / Re: Hornady's new 140g GMX bullet
December 18, 2020, 10:07:20 PM
Personally I would stay with the 120gr in 6.5 creedmoor and leave the 140gr for the 6.5 PRC class of 6.5 calibers. All copper bullets are much tougher than lead copper bullets and need to be pushed fast to reliable open. In all copper bullets I suggest running light for caliber bullets and pushing them fast for reliable performance. I only use 55gr GMX in my 223's for hunting after having reliability issues with the 70gr's not opening. I've been hunting with copper bullets for 20 or so years now just my 2 cents.

General Discussion / Re: Stainless Steel Really Does Rust
December 18, 2020, 09:51:35 PM
My old Ruger's in stainless have never rusted. I have a stainless Marlin 17HMR that has very lightly rusted. I bought it used and it was a little rusted and abused when I got it. I'm sure it all depends on the grade of stainless used and the conditions that the individual gun experiences. Now with the new Cerikote finished carbon steel parts there maybe no reason to fool with stainless anymore.

I occasionally see shots like that with my Magnetospeed for me it's usually because the bayonet has worked loose on the barrel. On a labradar it must be occasional gremlins rearing their ugly heads.

I know someone could put pen to paper and figure this question out but it not worth it to me just find a load that gives you low teen's or single digit SD's and shoot it like you stole it. As long as my groups are sub MOA at 100yds with very low SD's they shoot pretty well for me at 1000yds.

Reloading / Re: Bergara Hmr 6.5 creedmoor loading?s

I shoot a lot of the Hornady 140 amax and eldm's I think they call them now I've also shot a lot of the hollow point match bullets in Hornady and Seirra's and I've shot a couple boxes of the Lapua 130's all are good bullets.

Nice video I've taken several animals with 6.5 Creedmoor and been very impressed

I have a box of Berger 215 hybrids that came with a bunch of reloading equipment I bought a while back I figured their not a bad place to start

I understand I was really struggling with the 300PRC  28 Norma and 338 Lapua. When I saw Lapua was making 300 PRC brass I decided that was the one for me and It was in the Bergara I wanted to test drive

I have several of the Precision Armament M4-72 brakes they very effective

Bolt Action Rifles / Re: Cartridge preferences

I just went with a 300prc but I'm shooting 1000+ yards one of my shooting buddies picked up a 6.5 PRC and it did very well at 1000 yards for first time out and factory ammo.

General Discussion / Strayed from the 6.5 creedmoor path
December 13, 2020, 08:41:29 AM
I just ordered a Bergara HMR Pro in 300 PRC last week can't wait to get it supposed to be here tomorrow. I was just wanting something with a little more long range ability for 1000+ yards really considered another Savage in 338 or 300prc but have seen a lot of great reviews on the Bergara's thought I'd give them a try.
