LeadHammer, I bought one a couple years ago or so.  B/4 that I used a couple Wilson trimmers, one with mic.  I like the Lyman a lot.  The Wilsons are great , the Lyman works as accurately and is faster.  Less physical effort as well.   I set to the case length I like and it cuts the cases to the length set. 

Its adjustment is in .001ths (thousandths).  Found it to be accurate and easy to adjust.  So, +1 for it.  lg

Just my comments:  It is natural for all other powders used to load 6.5CM to be compared to H4350.  This is because H4350 was the powder Hornady used when they introduced the cartridge.  I believe this is why it is the most popular powder used by those of us who load for the cartridge.

I load and like SF.  Along with H4350, RLs 16 & 17.  I get consistent results with each of these.  X # of grains of X powder = X velocity.   I get under an MOA of accuracy with any of these and the powder I choose does not open or tighten my groups. I load in the 'original recipe' node.  2700-ish fps.  Using original recipe bullet weights, 140s class. 

I do not know SF is temperature sensitive or insensitive, I've never seen any numbers on it.  Nor have I fired any of it in a large enough temperature range to find out myself.   I do have to use more SF to get the same MVs as I get with any of the other powders I load.  I do  like SF as it meters nicely through my powder dispensers.  A 'con' is, I believe it burns dirtier. 

I will buy and use SF with the same enthusiasm as I buy any of the others I have listed here.  My current favorite powder and one I have the most of is RL-16.    All FWIW, lg

Grant, I think the case falls back to the bolt face before the ogive hits the lands.  Just my thinking about the timing.  Will be interesting to read of test results that some here are going to try and do with respect to which measurement is the one to go by.  Base to ogive or shoulder to ogive.

On that I think that if a person uses the shoulder measurement and changes that, loads based on that, that when he adjusts that measurement , he will also be adjusting the CBTO measurement.  Or visa versa.   So to me, it would not matter.   Example if I find a CBTO of 2.25 excellent, I also have a measurement of the shoulder which proves to be excellent. 

We are full length sizing based on the CB to Shoulder to begin with.  If I size based on shoulder to ogive or base to ogive, I am concurrently changing the other measurement.  SO, it should not make a difference the way I understand it (if correctly) which measurement a person chooses and  uses. 

Bikemutt, I think I got mine from Midsouth.   Forster has them in stock now also.  And I believe I saw them on Midway's site.  About 15 bucks. 

I measured 2.913" COAL when my Berger 140 TH's ogive touched the lands.

What Gman said, and I will add, get a Forster ring for your die that is marked with increments in 0.001" I just started using these about a month ago and they work like a charm.  Can set my bump easily and to the number of thousandths I want, right off the get go.

These will work on a bullet seating die as well.  lg

I think it is your powder choices Irwin.  With other powders you can reach 2700-ish with 140 grain bullets and up in the 2900 fps neighborhood with 120 grains.  And not max out pressure wise.   I've not read anyone shooting 6.5CM loading with Hunter or BLc.  (but a guy loads with what he has these days) 

Powder is hard to find, but, you will get better velocity performance with H4350 as well as Alliant RL-17 and 16.  Superformance as well.   For now, I am pretty sure you will hit these target velocities and be much happier with your keg of IMR 4350.

Autofixforfun, we did this in 8th grade shop class almost 60 years ago, I just could not remember the bonding agent used.   It has not changed.    It was nice for me to try to help some one out here, after all the help I have gotten  from members over the past few years I have been here! lg

Hi Autoxforun,  I got up with my nephew on the phone this morning.   Here is what he said-  for using the saw dust or sandings trick, just use a regular wood glue, like Elmers.   Then he mentioned a product called Shillack (sp?) sticks.  These are available in colors and Brownells carries them.   

Apparantly these SS's are a hard waxy like thing.  And used to fill in voids etc.  Then a sanding of them and finish with whatever a guy is using for finish, if anything.   HE said he had seen this done and it turns out real nice.    So, hope this helps.   The regular wood glue and saw dust works too.   I remember it from shop class in 8th grade.    And he said experiment either on a piece of scrap wood

Boltman, I have been running my guns to 1K and new to hitting a target at that distance.  My MV is in a range +/- 40 fps around 2700.  Mostly around 2730.  I'm still working on the load for a new rifle. 

  I'm shooting those bullets, 140/144 Berger HTs.    I had some factory 140s that ran over 2800 fps that was very accurate.   Now I read where you are running these at 2815.   I can load that fast pressure wise, 24" bbl.   What is the accuracy node when you get up to 2800s?  How wide around 2815 either side?   In your experience of course.  TIA, lg

Forster Micrometer seating die here.  And waiting delivery from Whidden on a custom Fl sizing die. I've used RCBS sizer and Forster bushing sizing die.  But, size necks with mandrel these days.

Hi Autoxforfun,  I will be speaking with my nephew soon after the first of the new year.  He is rebarreling and refinishing a Model 70 for me and I want to see how he is coming with it.   He finished a custom for me last September, so hate to start bugging him about the Mod 70 so soon after that project, if you know what I mean.    I have it noted to ask him about your 'thing'.     Happy new year!  lg

writerman- " I haven't hit the sweet spot yet with my loads".   Mine was with both my 20" &24" bbb (Rock River Arms off the shelf)  +/- 2700 fps.  Using anyone of four powders.  I use Hornady 140 HPBT Match bullets for thrift and it also shoots 142 SMKs great.  Loaded to 'mag length'.   It produced groups where bullets in the groups were touching or nearly so at 100 yds.  You, a person, I, could run it faster, but my rifle cycles reliably at this MV.  Pitches brass at 4 o'clock.    Chambers and extracts as advertised.     So at this velocity I have accuracy and reliability.    One problem, probably the most written about, with the AR-10 builders have is getting them gassed right.    FWIW and hope this helps.  lg
