My son got his first deer, he is 12 years old. He was so excited. I'm so happy he had such a great experience on his first hunt. Now he is looking foreword to hunting, and shooting more. Too bad the one G2 tine is broke off. But most of the bucks around are missing tines, or even a full side of antlers. Lots have some bad atab wounds as well.

149 yards through the heart and lungs, the one lung wasnt as damaged, and from the picture it's showing the side that isn't damaged. Ran 20 yards and was stone dead.

He uses his 6.5 Grendel, I had it loaded with 129 accubond long range bullets. Running right at 2430fps. Impact velocity would have been at around 2200fps. It hit a rib going in, expanded, took out the heart and lungs, and went through a rib on it way out. Right through the deer. Huge bodied buck. Almost no damage at all, didn't even touch the diaphragm. Nice clean kill.

Congrats to him and to you too Dad! Takes time and lots of care to help a young man find his way to the ethics of a good hunt.

I was trying to get my dad to go out with him. As my first hunt was with my grandpa, his dad. So I kind of wanted the same for him. But he was too busy, as always.

But I am glad on how it worked out, and it will definitely be something to remember.

I'd say it worked out perfect, you're a lucky man!

Great buck for your son, and even better he has an interest in hunting with you. My kids have no interest at all in hunting or shooting sports.

Now I just have to get him interested in the reloading process. I think the hunting, and having so much fun with that will help though.
