1911, I did like you, I actually got similar results as you. I found I was getting better results from the fire forming stuff than factory brass. I have found a node between 41.6 and 41.8 so have settled on 41.7 There was a node similar in the 42's but living in Oz with the heat of summer I deliberately keep it on the lower side due to the pressure signs showing up in summer time  on the hotter loads. I am using convert cheap federal and Winchester brass too and I have doubts that it is off that level of quality.

Ammunition / Re: Creedmoor brass drought

Lofty. I bought 500 when they were available. However that was before I converted a bunch of .243 federal or winchester brass. If I knew how good this brass shot I wouldn't have bought the Hornady brass. I found .243 brass easier to form than .308 and follow Shuan (Aussie65) and Rooks instructions minus the neck turning part as they didn't need it. They shoot as good as or better than the factory brass.

I took Shaun's advice at 40gr starting point for my first batch shoulders could have been a little better formed. Second batch I went up to 41gr and got sharper shoulders.

Reloading / Re: Am I On The Right Track

Shaun, as you are aware. I was getting good results with my fire forming. My came up 1.536 and some higher.  I'm guessing there is quiet bit of spring in the brass from the work hardening and the brass want to return to it's original shoulder and springing back after ejection. I know my brass was on the lower end of quality. I did notice when bumping the shoulders back on the Hornady brass using the same die setting I was getting a shorter case compared to the re sized .243 brass which kept wanting to return to 1.535
I shoot hot all the time up here and can get a bit carried away shooting long strings and don't believe that would be the problem. I do get pressure signs on hot days but also my muzzle velocity goes up.

Shaun,

I've just checked mine. Fire formed Hornady brass 1.536 and fire formed convert .243 brass 1.536 give half a thou each way on both.

Not yet. Federal government has approved the importation. Just up to the states now to give the approval. Should only be a box ticking exercise with the ozzie state governments. There was a issue of the folding stock and the military look of the rifle. God help us if that was the reasoning behind the delays.
Cleavers have them on their website. I think $1965, but they will be parallel importing that's if ruger sells to them direct. NIOA are the licensed importers and a mate of mine has grabbed one out of their first shipment. Cleavers is known for taking deposits on guns that they can't promise.

Sorry Shaun due June. Well that's what they say.

General Discussion / Ruger Precision Rifles Delays
January 15, 2016, 04:42:07 AM
G'day guys, noticed some members are having delays on acquiring their RPR. I thought they were up and running in production.
What are the delays on them over there.

Yeah Rusty,
I purchased one as that's all I could get as there was no chance of picking up a Timney or Jewel here in oz at the moment. I have to agree with you. Bloody good value for the money. Like you I find it very crisp and no creep. I haven't fiddle with the pull weight yet but soon as I have time I will have a play around with it.

Hunting / Re: Timber Wolf Pics

Are the wolfs pure or to they cross breed with wild dogs. Here in Oz the dingo which is a shy but cunning dog in the wolf family it is actually the Asian wolf. Crosses with domestic wild dogs and they don't grow big like your wolf but are very aggressive.
