Got in on the group buy as well.  I went with the 6x47 Lupua.  I realize the barrel life is relatively short, but for less than $500 for a new barrel it's s a deal. 

I was looking at the options and decided against doing the PVA barreled action pre-order, I just went to ARC to do their Nucleus action pre-order with Barlock.

If I can use a standard Savage pre-fit barrel, the PVA pre-order doesn't save any money.  I'll order my barrel in a few weeks once I get confirmation on the Barlock fit and money to order.  I think the barrel might beat the action to me so it shouldn't cause much extra wait if any.  I'll be waiting to order the KRG Bravo until the end because you never know what will come along in the meantime.  Optics are the big question.  I want to go top notch so that means saving money and more wait.

The good part about that is I have only decided on a short action and .473" bolt face.  Everything else is flexible.

The bad part is that I've opened myself up to second guessing.

I actually got the 223 and mag bolt face.....so this forces me into trying new calibers.


Doug, the 6x47L is super sweet. I run mine on IMR4451 with HVLD's 105. It's a kitty Kat to shoot. Why did you choose the 47 over the 6 creed ? The 47's can be finicky to tune or the 6 creeds. But, both shoot extremely well.

I too pre-ordered a couple of Nucleus actions with Barlocks. Both are short actions. One with standard bolt face for a 6.5 Creed., and one with a magnum bolt face for a 6.5 SAUM. They should be great actions. It was tough deciding between the new Bighorn Origin and the Nucleus.

I pre-ordered a LH SA Nucleus last week. Think I'm going to build a 22 Creedmoor with it,I have a bunch of 75 gr AMax bullets setting on the shelf that need to have a speedy departure.

The three lug toroidal bolt, Mauser style extractor, bolt stop and Barlock system sold me on it, the scope rail and ejector seem nicely done too but I suppose the Origin is nice too.

The Origin does have a pinned recoil lug but the Nucleus has the lug captured by the rail.  I kind of like the idea of not drilling in that area of the receiver.  Maybe that's no better but it's certainly no worse.

Does the PVA John Hancock model use the Barloc system or even offer it? I didn't see it if it does.

They tried pretty hard to keep the John Hancock under $2,000.  It sounds like caliber and stock color are the only options and it won't have a Barlock.

I ordered the nucleus receiver because it was not a run of the mill 700 clone. It appears that ARC has had a lot of orders for this action. Am wondering what their machining capacity is. Do they do their own machining or do they farm it out?

If you are talking TOP notch, it means a lot more money and sometimes a real long wait.    About $4k and unless you find one in stock, up to 6 months or so in wait.    Just depends on what you define "Top" as.

As far as I know, Ted does all his own. There is no one who makes an action like an ARC. I have always wanted one of his, but they are pricey !! He is one of the few innovators of today. The price was just too good to pass up.

Yeah, I have never gone big on a scope before, Schmidt and Bender is going to be in the discussion although I'm not sure I could justify over $4,000.  I think I can probably find something in the low to mid $3,000 range that I like, maybe less because I'm going to prioritize glass quality, won't need a huge zoom range and I don't need absolutely every tactical doodad.  To me top notch doesn't necessarily mean top price but it won't be cheap.

ARC has put a message on their Facebook page, they are continuing introductory pricing until tomorrow and then will stop accepting new orders until they can produce them in a reasonable time frame.  They say orders already put in will be delivered in the order they were received no matter which action length or hand.

It sounds like they got lots of pre-orders, probably more than enough to cover their startup cost.

They also said they would be making videos answering the questions people have about the action but need to spend time building them instead of answering the phone.  Understandable, so hurry up and make my action!

Dan, I have been looking at both sites today. Have you seen/touched any of these ?

I ordered on yesterday and the barloc system is only $50 for nucleus customers. $180 normal price for non nucleus customer.

Man I thought I resisted the urge long enough and then ARC goes and extends the sale.... I don't think I can hold out much longer but I need to make up my mind what caliber I want to build first.
