You should not need a magnum primer.

Just a suggestion — if you have some Fed 210s give them a try.

I used regular large rifle primers in my Remington at first then one chilly morning I had a couple failure to fires. Switched to the 250s and never had a problem since.

It looks like someone is setting up to shoot      extreme long distance. Can't wait to see how far you take this one.

gman47564

Will try to take it as far as a 140 gr. Eldm will go at 2930 fps Chaz. ????

Struggling to get the 150 gr smk  to shoot good in this thing. I see where people say their pushing them 2950 to 3000 plus with re 26 h4831 re22 but I sure can't get there without being over pressured. About 2850 is max in my gun. And accuracy is horrible. Tried re 26 and 4831. Was hoping to push this thing around 2900. Not sure theirs any advantage shooting them in the low t800 range or even upper 2700 range. Little frustrated. Lol

Grant,  maybe it's not to be with the 150's.  I see it has a 1-8 twist.  Maybe the combination of that bullet and the twist, won't work well together.  I'd try something less sensitive, like the Sierra 142, Hornady 140eld-m or maybe the Berger 140 hybrid.  At those speeds, your not gaining anything over your 6.5 or 6mm.  You need to be closer to 3000+ fps with a 6.5 bullet, for it to be worth your time.  Have you tried factory ammo, to see if it shoots?
The factory loaded HSM with the Berger 140's is 3016 fps.  I know it costs and is a lot of time, but I know a comb is out there for you.

Gregg I got the 140 eldms shooting pretty good at 2930. And was hoping to get the 150's up around there but seems it's not to be. It was worth a try I guess.

I am having good success with the 150g SMKs.  But I run them thru a 7.5:1 twist barrel and with a MV of around 2750.  When I push them up higher I start seeing pressure issues before I find the next node.  The max I shoot out of an 8:1 is the 147g ELD-Ms which do very well, but again, I am in the 2760 range.

Ps...oops.  just noticed that this is not a CM......I need to read the full thread.  Please disregard.

Referencing safes, one of my shooting friends has it bad as well, he is on his 4th safe - going on 5....

Not a collector - an accumulator.  He can't go to a LGS or gun show without coming home with a another one.

I have been working on the 150's again in the 6.5 x55 BJAI (case H2O cap of just over 62gr).  I can fit 54gr of H4350 at the top of the shoulder.  I was able to get to 2940 in a 30"/8tw barrel with 48.5gr and 2980 with 50.0gr..  I will shoot an OCW test on Sat. to finalize the charge (loaded from 48.0-49.0gr).  This is with the bullet seated 0.020" OTL.  I based the seating depth off of tests done using RL-23 (which should be a better choice than 26).  In this case 49.2gr of RL-23 shot VERY well in initial testing at 300yds.  If you can get there with RL-23 and have the precision you need then it will likely be kinder than H4350.  I am testing it because my gunsmith has been pushing me to test it.  He found extraordinary low vertical in a .284 with a 180 Berger.  I would not give up on the 150 SMK just yet Grant; I am really liking what I am seeing thus far.

Robin I think with the new shilen barrel the 150s will do fine in my gun. The factory savage barrel had rifling issues with it causing over pressure problems way below book max loads with any powder I tried in it. Been looking for re 23 but havnt come across any yet. But I will. The gun will be far from stock before I try them again. Waiting on components for it right now. Good to hear your having good luck with them.

Gamaliel, now owned by Brownell's (much to my surprise) has Reloder 23 (and 16) in stock:

Not the best price but available

Graf's and Natchez also have one pounders of 23
