AR10 build, what barrel?

I decided to build an AR10 6.5 Creedmoor rifle before the new WA law kicks in, come July every semi-auto rifle will then be an "assault rifle", even a Ruger 10/22  :o

I bought a stripped Aero Precision M5 matched lower and upper set, going to take my time building it.

Wondering what barrels you all would recommend? I don't hunt big game so this is for range use. Weight won't be a factor and for now, I have nowhere to shoot past 300 yards or so. I could look at 6mm Creedmoor too but that's another set of dies etc, not sure if that's a good idea.

I don't know why but those darn Proof barrels look cool as all get out.

Thanks.

Chris

I have used Ballistic Advantage barrels with great success, but you should be ok with any premium vendor/barrel

I've had excellent results from Kreiger.  Good enough that I bought a second to replace the last one before it's shot out.  Bolt action results out of a semi-auto.

My sole complaint (if you want to call it that) is the use of a rifle length gas system.  I believe the 6.5 needs a bit more time before the bolt unlocks (as opposed to the 308).  A +1 or +2 gas length would keep the bolt closed a bit longer, allow warmer hand loads, and be easier on brass.  The rifle gas works best with a rifle extension/buffer, but you can tune it with an adjustable gas block to make a slash heavy carbine buffer work well enough.

ETA: In my honest opinion, the cf wrapped barrels from proof or CA are only good to save weight.  If you don't plan on carrying the rifle, save your money.
Fulton Armory keeps them in stock.

I'm using a Ballistics Advantage barrel for my build.  This is my first 6.5 build but I've used their barrels in several 5.56 builds and have been very pleased.

I have a BA Grendel and about to get a Wylde barrel from them.  Grendel is a shooter.

Well team, after beating myself up over this for what feels like an eternity I pulled the trigger on a JP Supermatch 22" 6.5 Creedmoor barrel today. It comes with a headspaced bolt and firing pin. It is +2 gas length.

I'll post back when I get this beast together!

Thanks for the help!

Be sure to lap the upper receiver face.

IMHO, it is one of the easiest things to do, and help with a more precise shooting Large Frame AR.
