I built a 308 with one of their builder sets a couple years ago. It's pretty sweet, but I had the wrong spring in when I first put it together, and the bolt velocity was very high. Putting the higher power buffer spring in resolved all of the cycling issues. I also used an adjustable block to allow for suppressed use as well. Still havent completely fleshed out all of the settings for it, but it is not 100% reliable when switching from suppressed to unsuppressed. It doesn't really matter, as long as it is reliable suppressed, which is the way I shoot it 99% of the time anyway.

Blaser rifles have been using straight pulls for a while now. I'm not sure how their action locks up, but I am sure that Savage would have done a significant amount of testing to ensure this action will stay locked up during the combustion sequence to prevent the need to remove said bolt from your face after a nice range session or that shot on your game. Seems that would be a bummer to me, and something they've thought about and tested thoroughly. I might just be being naïve as well. Look at some of the other guns manufacturers have released in recent history...

So... borescopes are like women. Not all of us need them to get by. Sheesh!

I haven't scoped any bores, and I don't think it is necessary either. That said, I do like the option of being able to look inside, and should get one just for the nerd factor of it. I think I'll see what's on Amazon today and order one if they have something worthwhile.

Hey, just got my new rifle, and was curious if there were any new developments in cleaning solvents I should know about? I'm still very happy with M-Pro 7 and Ballistol (for my revolvers), but figured if anyone knew of a better solvent for rifles, it would be on this forum. Sound off and share the wealth.

Fallen by the wayside? No. Being overlooked due to newer, shinier, easy button cartridges, yeah. The 308 is NOT the best hunting, target, or plinking round, but it is not irrelevant by any definition of the word. It is, and always will be, one of the greatest American military/commercial rifle cartridges ever conceived of. Much like the 7.62x54R, which is STILL in use for military applications today. The longest serving military round in history. I have one, or two, rifles chambered for it, but it holds no place in my heart other than the Mosin being a pretty damn cool rifle.

Because the 308 was my first true love. And, I don't have a bolt action 308 in my stable right now. True, you cannot push the uber high BC bullets to 3000 FPS, but, the rifle I purchased is not a target rifle. It's main purpose will be for hunting, so the velocity capabilities of the 308 paired with the exceptional accuracy I expect to be able to achieve will more than make up for the increased wind drift at 500 yards, which would be more than 2X the distance I would ever shoot at a game animal in my neck of the woods. If I was shooting prairie dogs, or at anything else from a supported position, with a bench/tripod, I wouldn't hesitate to take any of my 6.5s out. Currently, they're all target configurations with relatively high magnification scopes, and would not be fun to try and take a shot using a tree or a fence to steady my aim.

Honestly though, my first answer is the true one. The 308 will always be my first love in centerfire rifles, and it is still viable in all aspects of shooting. I just hope the rifle has a long enough throat for me to play around with slower powders and single feeding them heavy, slippery 30 cals.

Is 60.4 your max for this bullet choice? It looks like 60.0 and 60.4 have the same elevation and windage, with jus a very slight shift compared to 59.6. Maybe 60.0 is the sweet spot in that node. Idk, I hardly even shoot anymore.

I use the 0.375 insert for 6.5 CM and 6.5x47L. I only bump 0.001", but I don't compete (thankfully... I'd perpetually get my ass handed to me), and my round count is low enough a few heavy bolt closes isn't going to hurt my enjoyment of a rifle, or wear the lugs out. Shorter cases after firing can be normal. I'd question your powder choice for 140 class projectiles, but it is hard times, and H4350 might be difficult to come by. Either way, I'd still suggest any of the powders in the IMR 4451, RL-16 or 17, H4350, etc., for ANY bullet you'd shoot in the 6.5 CM. You will get as good, or better, velocity with them than a powder you would normally use in the 223 or 308 WIN.

Well, it needs a new barrel, so maybe drop the barrel from the package. Ol' English is right about parting it out as well. Sucks, but the ROI will be higher.
